Scanning 2.4 Billion Eyes, India Tries to Connect Poor to Growth says NY Times

India has embarked on an ambitious citizen identity system based on biometrics. I've written about this before and people have responded sharing their concerns about privacy. My concerns are more about the efficacy of biomterics and its ability to deliver unique identification. Biometrics has never been tested at such a large scale.

My view is that even if the uniqueness of the identification process were to be prone to significant errors, the project and the process will change the orientation behind delivery of public goods to citizens. This project is a game changer and is in the hands of motivated and empowered people.
